Luka Modric has reportedly signed a new deal to remain at Real Madrid, and the details will be confirmed next week after the Champions League final.

The 38-year-old’s existing contract expires at the end of the season, and he has seen his opportunities this term limited by the impressive debut campaign of Jude Bellingham.

Modric’s Real Madrid colleague Toni Kroos has already confirmed he is stepping away from football at the end of the season, and there was intense speculation that the Croatian could follow suit.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that Modric will sign a new one-year deal with the club, taking him to the summer of 2025.

Modric joined Real Madrid in 2012, and the additional year would mean that he would have spent 13 years on the books at the Spanish giants.

Monday is set to be the unveiling of Kylian Mbappe as a Real Madrid player, according to a report on Friday, so the news of Modric’s extension would be another celebration in a busy week for the LaLiga champions.

German Kroos is set to play his final game for Real Madrid in Saturday’s clash at Wembley, having announced his retirement from the game after this summer’s European Championships.

Kroos was given a hugely emotional farewell by Madrid players and club supporters in his final game at the Bernabeu at the weekend, and Modric explained he wants to be given a similar farewell.

In an interview with Partidaz de Cope, Modric said: ‘The decision on my future is made but I can’t tell you yet.

‘I have always said I want to retire at Real Madrid, this is what I really want’.

‘This would be a dream, this is my home, the club of my life. I want a farewell like Toni Kroos,’ he added.

Modric broke a 59-year record at the start of April when he became the oldest player to feature in the European Cup for Real Madrid at the age of 38 years and 234 days.

His career at the Spanish giants has seen Modric win five Champions League titles, four LaLiga titles, two Spanish cups and a host of other major honours.

He also became the first player to break Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi’s stranglehold on the Ballon d’Or when he won the individual accolade in 2018.
