Steve Cooper leapfrogs previous favorites – top contender for Leicester manager

With Enzo Maresca confirmed as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor at Chelsea – attention immediately turns to who will be the Italian’s replacement at newly-promoted club Leicester City for the 2024-25 Premier League season.

West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan was previously the favourite with Sky Bet as of last week – however – he has widened to a 3/1 second-favourite over the past couple of days.

He has been leapfrogged by former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper – who is now the best-backed in the market at 4/6.

It comes after Cooper said this week that he would accept the Leicester job if offered the role.

Cooper experienced early success with Forest when he took over in 2021 – taking them from the bottom of the Championship and securing promotion to the Premier League in the same season.

However – as is often the case – his time in the English top-flight wasn’t as fruitful, finishing 16th in 2022-23 and starting the 2023-24 season poorly.

As a result – Cooper was dismissed as Forest manager in December, 2023.

Meanwhile, if you’re after an outsider in the market – Ruud van Nistelrooy, Oscar Garcia and Graham Potter round out the five favourites at 7/1, 10/1 and 12/1 respectively.

Sky Bet favourites to be the next Leicester manager:

Steve Cooper 4/6

Carlos Corberan 3/1

Ruud van Nistelrooy 7/1

Oscar Garcia 10/1

Graham Potter 12/1
