Thierry Henry mocks Jamie Carragher over Liverpool’s Champions League woes

Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has poked fun at Jamie Carragher over the fact that Liverpool failed to qualify for this season’s Champions League.

Henry and Carragher work together as pundits on CBS Sports’ coverage of the Champions League and while discussing Wednesday’s quarter-final clashes between Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona and Atletico Madrid and Borussia Dortmund, the World Cup winner could not resist taking a dig at his colleague.

“It’s actually better when Liverpool are not in the Champions League,” Henry quipped. “He behaves, he’s a bit more relaxed, there’s less screaming…”

Carragher then pointed out that CBS also have the rights for the Europa League, with Liverpool set to face Atalanta in the quarter-finals of that competition. However, when presenter Kate Abdo asked if he wanted to work as a pundit on the Europa League, Carragher replied: “I’ll do the final.”

Carragher and Henry have also made their predictions on who they think will win the Champions League this season, along with fellow CBS pundits Micah Richards and Peter Schmeichel. Carragher has backed City to lift the trophy once again after they drew 3-3 with Real Madrid in the first leg of their quarter-final.

“Right, Arsenal-Bayern. I’m going to go for European experience, I’m going to go for Bayern,” Carragher said. “At the bottom here, I’m going to go for Man City [vs Real Madrid] – the best team in Europe.

“Over here, I’m going to go for Atletico Madrid [vs Borussia Dortmund], they’re going to go in there. Kylian is going to do it [in PSG vs Barcelona]. Then, out of these two [Atletico Madrid and PSG], I’m going to go for PSG in the final to play Manchester City. And the winner is…the club with 115 charges, Manchester City!”

Henry, meanwhile, simply said: “Me, I ONLY care about Arsenal, because they are in [the competition], so I’m going to go straight with the champion — The Arsenal. Bye, see you later.”

Richards is unsurprisingly backing his former side City to lift the trophy again, while Schmeichel has tipped Real Madrid to go all the way and win the Champions League for the 15th time in their history.
