Kieran Tierney admits he remains in the dark over his Arsenal future and has not had any discussions with Mikel Arteta because the manager is too busy.
The Scotland full back is spending the season on loan at Real Sociedad and describes his time in La Liga as “an incredible experience.” While Tierney is not ruling out a return to the Emirates, he says at present he has no idea what he will be doing after the summer. And he believes the example of William Saliba, who was sent out on loan to three different clubs but has now become one of the Premier League ’s centre backs, proves nothing should be ruled out.
“In football you never know,” Tierney told talkSPORT. “It’s a bit strange that you can come back the way [William] Saliba did. It is strange to be on loan for four years and then return to play. Football is crazy, so we’ll see. I’m not talking to Arteta, he’s busy there.” Tierney has made only 11 league starts for Real Sociedad and featured just once in their maiden Champions League campaign. Yet the 26-year-old is not ready for his temporary spell at the club to end.
He added: “Honestly, this is an incredible experience, I enjoy it. It’s a shame that there is so little time left, there are a good six or seven weeks left of the season.” And Tierney is also tipping Arteta’s current squad to go all the way in a three-team Premier League title race. The Gunners face Aston Villa on Sunday afternoon, after Liverpool have faced Crystal Palace. Reigning champions Manchester City got the better of Luton Town on Saturday afternoon.
Arsenal will also visit Bayern Munich on Wednesday night for the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final having drawn the first meeting 2-2 last Tuesday. “I think they can [win the title],” Tierney added. “I don’t know exactly the run-in for the three teams fighting for it, but I think they’re in a better position than last year.
“They’ve got more experience, their whole game has developed so much, defensively they’re solid, they don’t give much away. If you can keep that record up, then 100 per cent, you’ve got every chance to go and do it.”
