Slot ‘targets £50million rated Atalanta midfielder as first Liverpool signing’

Arne Slot has reportedly identified Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners as his first signing at Liverpool.

Feyenoord manager Slot is set to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield in the summer, with deal having been agreed between the two clubs.

A £9million compensation package has been agreed for Slot with personal terms set to be decided.

According to Italian outlet Sport Mediaset, Koopmeiners has been targeted to become part of the Dutchman’s Liverpool squad next season.

The Reds are expected to rival Serie A giants Juventus for the Atalanta star in the summer transfer window.

Atalanta are reported to have set an asking price of £50million for the 26-year-old midfielder.

The Dutch international would be reunited with Slot should he move to Anfield.

He previously played under Slot during the Dutchman’s sole year in charge of AZ Alkmaar back in the 2019-20 season.

Koopmeiners has enjoyed an impressive season with the Bergamo based club, scoring 14 and providing five assists from midfield in 43 appearances.

The midfielder was part of the Atalanta side who stunned Liverpool in the Europa League quarter-finals earlier this month.

The Serie A side stunned Liverpool and outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp by winning the first leg 3-0 at Anfield.

Liverpool won the second 1-0 but were unable to overhaul their deficit, ending Klopp’s hopes of a fairytale end to his time with the Reds in Europe.

Atalanta face Marseille in the Europa League semi-finals with the first leg taking place on Thursday.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side have also advance to the Coppa Italia final, with Atalanta due to face Juventus on May 15.
