Arsenal’s longest-serving player has confirmed he will leave the club in the summer after his contract expires.

Mikel Arteta’s team have once again taken the title race down to the final day as they prepare to play host to Everton on Sunday.

Victory against the Toffees will not be enough on its own however, and Arsenal will be hoping that West Ham are able to upset Manchester City on the final day to produce a dramatic climax to what has been a thrilling campaign.

For one player however, Sunday’s clash will mark his final game after spending more than eight years in north London.

Speaking ahead of his departure, Mohamed Elneny paid tribute to the club’s supporters.

‘Gooners, I’m here today to send you a message, to say goodbye and thank you for everything you’ve done for me.’ The 31-year-old said in a post shared on his X account.

‘The love, the support and the kindness. I’m really going to miss you so much and you’ll be in my heart forever.

‘I wanted to say how much I love you and how much you mean to me. I will never forget the way you supported me.

‘I’m going to see you on Sunday at the Emirates to say goodbye face to face, see you then.’

Elneny arrived at the Emirates in the January transfer window of 2016 during Arsene Wenger’s reign at the club, joining from Swiss side Basel.

The Egypt international has spent much of his time at the club on the fringes of the starting XI, but has nonetheless racked up more than 150 appearances in all competitions.

Elneny has made three Premier League appearances this season – all from the bench – but has not featured in a matchday squad since the club’s 4-1 win over Newcastle in February.
