Barcelona manager Hansi Flick to earn half of Xavi Hernandez salary

German coach Hansi Flick is in the Catalan capital with agent Pini Zahavi, as he awaits the call to go in and sign his contract with Barcelona. The Catalan giants will make a significant saving on the salary of the 59-year-old.

Xavi Hernandez is set to waive the rest of his salary for the remaining year of his contract, although Barcelona will pay out around €3m for the rest of his staff. According to Diario AS, Flick will earn a gross salary of €6m (€3m after tax), about half of what Xavi was earning this season. He will however earn a €1m bonus if Barcelona win the Champions League, and a €750k bonus for bringing La Liga back to Camp Nou, compared to €300k and €150k respectively for Xavi. Flick is expected to pen a two-year deal today.

Once officially installed, his first tasks will consist of assessing the arrivals and exits currently planned at Can Barca, with Sergi Roberto and Guido Rodriguez theoretically due to renew and sign on with the Blaugrana. The likes of Marcos Alonso and Oriol Romeu are due to leave. He will also set a date for Barcelona to return for preseason, currently the 10th of July.

When Flick gets to work on the training ground, there is a good chance that he will be without many of his key players, with the Euros ending four days later. Gavi will still be recovering from injury, while 14 players are also set to appear at either the Euros or Copa America this summer. That would leave only Sergi Roberto, Vitor Roque, Romeu, Inigo Martinez, Alejandro Balde and Inaki Pena in the first team currently.
