“We need to sign” – Galatasaray President confirms desire to sign Barcelona superstar

Barcelona need to make significant sales this summer if they are to allow new head coach Hansi Flick as much opportunity as possible to sign the players he wants. The likes of Ronald Araujo, Frenkie de Jong and Raphinha have all been speculated upon in recent weeks, but one player that is certain not to leave is Ilkay Gundogan.

Gundogan arrived on a free transfer from Manchester City last summer, and despite a tough season for Barcelona in 2023-24, he individually performed to a high standard – he is also sure to be a top player for Flick, who worked with the 33-year-old during his tenure as Germany manager.

That is bad news for Galatasaray president Dursun Ozbek, who told Turkish media (via MD) that his dream is to sign Gundogan.

“We need to sign about three players to compete in the Champions League. Maybe it’s time to try to complete the signing of my dreams: Ilkay Gundogan.”

Gundogan should remain as a key player for Barcelona in the coming years, despite now being considered as a veteran player. His standards should help the club improve going forward, and Flick will also force home that idea.
