Leicester City are considering Ruud van Nistelrooy as a replacement for Maresca

Leicester City are reportedly considering Ruud van Nistelrooy as an option to replace Enzo Maresca.

Van Nistelrooy managed PSV in the 2022-23 season and won the KNVB Cup but resigned a game before the campaign ended, with the club finishing second in Eredivisie.

Maresca is on the verge of being unveiled as Mauricio Pochettino’s successor at Chelsea with an eight-man backroom team, as exclusively revealed by Mail Sport.

The Foxes won the Championship with 97 points under Maresca this season, making an instant return to the Premier League.

Now United legend Van Nistelrooy is being weighed up as a replacement at the King Power Stadium, according to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Alongside managing PSV’s first team, he has also led their reserve and Under-19s teams and has twice been assistant boss of the Netherlands.

The former United striker, who scored 150 goals in five seasons at Old Trafford and won one Premier League title, has previously spoken of his desire to manage in England.

‘I would really like to work in Spain, and I have had conversations with Spanish clubs,’ he told Spanish outlet Diario AS.

‘But also the other leagues in which I have played, I want to coach there too. In the Premier League, and the Bundesliga.’

Should Jamie Vardy remain at Leicester as The Sun have reported, Van Nistelrooy might have a bone to pick with him.

In 2015, the Englishman scored in an 11th consecutive Premier League game – ironically against Manchester United – to break Van Nistelrooy’s previous record of 10.
