Modric to sign new contract at Real Madrid after rejecting two big-money offers

Saturday’s Champions League final victory over Borussia Dortmund may have been Toni Kroos’ final outing as a Real Madrid player, but the same won’t be said for Luka Modric. The 38-year-old, despite having been a substitute for the majority of the 2023-24 season, is prepared to extend his stay for another 12 months.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Modric will sign a new one-year contract, with a meeting taking place with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez next week to get everything wrapped up.

Romano also confirmed that Modric turned down two lucrative contract proposals in order to continue at Real Madrid. He is likely to continue as a squad player despite the departure of Kroos, although his experience will be invaluable for those in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad.

Although he has not regularly started, Modric still showed last season that he is a top, top player. His Real Madrid stay goes on, and once everything is finalised, he will head to the European Championship with Croatia.
