Sir Alex Ferguson joins Euro party as Man Utd icon cheers on Scotland in Germany

The Manchester United legend has flown into Munich to watch Friday night’s big game. And the proud Scot happily posed for photos with members of the Tartan Army from the Stonehaven area of Aberdeenshire.

Thomas Johnston, from the village of Drumlithie, said: “Alex was so polite. He was very happy to pose for photos and said he is really looking forward to tonight’s match. It was great to meet such a Scottish legend.”.

Ferguson was in the city centre near the Marienplatz square where thousands of Scottish fans have gathered ahead of their crunch Euro 2024 opener with hosts Germany. The iconic ex-United boss managed Scotland at the 1986 World Cup and this will be only the Tartan Army’s sixth tournament since.

Millions of his fellow Scots are set to will Steve Clarke’s side on to victory as they take on Germany in the highly-anticipated opening game of Euro 2024.

The match in Munich is the first of 51 to be played over the next month to decide the next European champions, with the final taking place at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin on Sunday, July 14.

Tens of thousands of members of the Tartan Army have made the trip to Germany to cheer on their heroes, and at home thousands more are expected to pack out venues specially set up in cities to screen the game.
