Bernardo Silva selects three best foreign players he’d like

Bernardo Silva named two Arsenal players when asked to select three foreign stars that he’d like to have in Portugal’s Euro 2024 squad.

Silva is one of a host of star names that make up the Portugal squad for this summer’s tournament.

Portugal, who won the competition in 2016, will be in Group F this time around alongside Turkey, Czechia and Georgia.

With 89 caps, Silva is one of the most experienced players in the Portugal squad in terms of representing the national team.

However, Silva has little doubt who he would choose if he could add players from other nations to Roberto Martinez’s squad.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Silva chose France star and recent Real Madrid signing Kylian Mbappe as one of the players that he would add to the Portugal squad.

Silva played alongside Mbappe when the latter was a young player at Monaco.

Silva told ESPN: ‘I would say Kylian Mbappe, definitely. I played with him and he’s a beast. I love him.’

For his next choice, Silva went for Arsenal and England midfielder Declan Rice, who has excelled since joining the Gunners from West Ham last year.

Silva said: ‘I’m going for one midfielder, I’m going to say Declan Rice. I really like him.

Silva also disclosed that he wouldn’t include any of his Manchester City team-mates in his selection.

He continued: ‘I’m not going to say any City players so you don’t think I’m going with friends. Otherwise I could have said Rodri or a striker or whatever, so I’m not going to say any team-mates.’

The third player that Silva selected was Arsenal and France defender William Saliba.

He said: ‘I’m going to go with Saliba. I think he’s a really good defender. He’s having a great season.’

Saliba hasn’t always been a regular starter for France in recent years but the centre-back will be aiming to be a key player for Didier Deschamps’ side during this tournament.
