Diogo Jota attempts to retrieve the ball to perform a ‘pregnant celebration’

Diogo Jota appeared to score during Portugal’s dramatic 2-1 victory against Czechia on Tuesday night but after heading the ball into the back of the net, he was seen rowing with Jindrich Stanek.

After a quiet first half, Lukas Provod broke the deadlock for Czechia in the 62nd minute, but Roberto Martinez’s side were given a lifeline after Robin Hranac’s own goal saw them pull level at 1-1.

Jota, 27, who came on as a substitute in the 63rd minute for Rafael Leao, had looked like he’d scored the winner for the 2016 European Champions.

Joao Cancelo had whipped the ball into the penalty area where Cristiano Ronaldo was waiting.

The Al-Nassr forward headed the ball down into the right post, but Jota, lurking on the edge of the six-yard box, was ready to pounce on the rebound, heading it into the back of the net.

Initially, the Liverpool forward, who is already a father of two, wheeled away in elation that he’d scored an 87th-minute winner but stopped in his tracks and returned to retrieve the ball from in the net in order to perform a celebration.

Czechia goalkeeper Stanek, meanwhile, had appeared to block the Portugal attacker from taking the ball, with Jota arriving before shouting at the former Everton academy goalkeeper.

As a mele of players arrived inside the goalmouth, the goalkeeper appeared to be pushed away from the ball, with Jota picking it up.

The Portugal forward then made off with the ball and tucked it under his jersey, before sucking his thumb appearing to pay tribute to his unborn child.

His players rallied around him to celebrate the last-gasp goal but VAR would soon spoil the party.

Referee Marco Guida would subsequently overturn the goal after it appeared Ronaldo was offside for Cancelo’s initial cross.

Jota cut a deflated figure as he walked back downfield after the decision had been made.

The goal would have been his 15th for his country, with Jota having won 40 caps for Portugal.

While Jota’s goal would not stand, Francisco Conceicao would strike home in the 92nd minute to seal a last-gasp victory for Martinez’s side, with the Porto forward lashing in a brilliant strike.

After rowing with the goalkeeper, Ronaldo would subsequently celebrate infront of Stanek after Conceicao’s late winner.
