Schmeichel hugs son Kasper after interviewing him as pair share special moment

Peter Schmeichel shared a touching moment with his son Kasper after Denmark came away with a point from their clash with England in Frankfurt on Thursday night.

The Danes managed to frustrate Gareth Southgate’s men and kept themselves in a good position to qualify for the knockout stages of Euro 2024.

Harry Kane gave the Three Lions an early lead but Denmark responded brilliantly with Morten Hjulmand levelling the scores with a lovely strike before half-time.

The match ultimately ended 1-1 with Schmeichel on hand to deny England’s best chance of the second half when Ollie Watkins was played in by Jude Bellingham.

And Schmeichel Sr was clearly proud of his son and his country’s display.

The Man United legend briefly interviewed his son during his role as a pundit for FOX Sports before saying ‘I do a lot of post-match interviews, but I never do this. Well played’

He proceeded to hug his boy on live TV in a moment that warmed the hearts of viewers at home.

Kasper then gifted his match-worn shirt to his dad who said ‘fantastic, there you go’.

The pair both laughed before shaking hands and going their separate ways.

During the interview, Kasper said: ‘I am very proud, That’s the Denmark I know.

‘We didn’t win, but the expression of the game, the fight, the heart, the fans, that’s the real Denmark.

‘There is always a tinge of disappointment when we don’t win, but when you look on reflection of the game it is probably a fair result.’

The result leaves England two points clear at the top of Group C with Denmark and Slovenia level on two points.

The final round of the groups sees England face Slovenia and Denmark take on Serbia with both games taking place at 8pm on Tuesday.
