Polish fan has HORROR fall from stand and is rushed to hospital

A Poland fan fell from a stand into a ditch and was taken to hospital with severe injuries during Friday’s match against Austria.

The supporter fell three metres from the stand into the depression next to pitch-level at Berlin’s Olympic Stadium and was knocked out.

The nature and extent of the fan’s injuries are unknown, as is his current condition, though they are reported to be ‘severe’ by the dpa press agency.

‘It’s gone quiet here. The Austrians were celebrating wildly. There is a more serious medical emergency. It looks like a Polish fan has fallen down the stands. We couldn’t follow it closely,’ said ARD presenter Alexander Bommes via The Mirror.

Austria beat Poland 3-1 to knock them out of Euro 2024 on Friday.

It is unclear what caused the accident with the supporter but Berlin policeare not treating it as suspicious.

An ambulance was called to the stadium and was present for around half an hour beyond the final whistle.

Stewards held tarpaulin over the ditch while the fan was being treated.

Austria are currently the best-off of all third-place teams in Euro 2024 with three points and a positive goal difference.

After losing 1-0 to France in their opening match, they beat Poland 3-1, and the y will face the Netherlands in their last group game on Tuesday.

Gernot Trauner gave Ralf Rangnick’s side the lead after nine minutes against Poland with a powerful header at the near post.

Krzysztof Piatek slid Poland level after a scruffy passage of play in the box half an hour in to give them hope.

However, second-half strikes Christoph Baumgartner and Marko Arnautovic, the latter from the penalty spot, meant Austria secured all three points.

Poland became the first side to be knocked out of Euro 2024, having lost 2-1 to the Netherlands in their opener.
