‘We deserve it’ – Lacazette prideful as Lyon reach Coupe de France final

Following Lyon’s 3-0 Coupe de France semi-final victory against Valenciennes, an emotional Alexandre Lacazette (32) spoke to beIN Sports of his pride as OL confirmed their place in the 2024 rendition of the final due to be played in Lille at the end of May.

Lacazette was pivotal against the second-division side for Les Gones. OL survived an early scare in the first half as Doucouré believed he gave the visitors the lead only for VAR to disallow the goal due to a foul from Knockaert on O’Brien in the buildup. Nevertheless, in the second half, Lyon looked transformed and the OL captain was at the centre of that scoring a double and winning the penalty which gave Lyon the lead.

Talking about the performance and the result, Lacazette said, “It’s the team that was incredible today. I’m scoring but the collective work of the whole team, the staff, it’s incredible. The support from the fans today was incredible, they were a real 12th man. I’m happy because we deserve it, it was hard this season. Last season, it was a real regret and I also felt responsible so I’m happy that we can go to the final, for the entire public, the city of Lyon.”

Lyon will face one of Rennes or PSG in the Coupe de France final with the second semi-final to be played on Wednesday evening.
