Revealed: Man Utd have made 2 mistakes leading to goals in the EPL this season

Manchester United may still be nursing the hangover from Thursday night’s crushing defeat to Chelsea, but fans can take some comfort in United being one of the least error-prone teams in the Premier League.

In fact, when it comes to mistakes leading to goals and shots, their opponents at Stamford Bridge are one of the worst in the entire division.

Opta have collated the stats for errors leading to shots and errors leading to goals and it makes for some interesting reading.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men sit at the joint-top of the standings for errors leading to shots, with a whopping 18 mistakes giving the opposition a sight on goal.

It was a defensive mix-up last night at Stamford Bridge that saw Alejandro Garnacho steal in to get Erik ten Hag’s side back into the game, and it’s one of five goals this season that have come by way of an error.

Compare that to Manchester United, who have conceded just two goals from errors from eight shots. With only West Ham and Crystal Palace having better records than the Red Devils.

The Eagles have made just five errors leading to shots so far this season, with three of them getting punished.

Chelsea’s 18 errors is shared at the top by Tottenham, who have also made the same number of mistakes, but one fewer has led to a goal, and Brighton – who currently have the worst record in the league.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men have made the same number of errors leading to shots as the two London sides, but their mistakes have led to more goals than any other team.

Eight goals have been conceded by Brighton, making them the most error-prone team in the league on the combined numbers. Although, only seven teams have actually conceded more goals than the South Coast side this season.

However, they are still not the team who have been punished the most when it comes to errors. Relegation-threatened Sheffield United have made nine errors leading to goals from 17 shots.

Those stats are a complete surprise given that the Blades have let in more goals than any other team this season, with 80, fourteen more than fellow strugglers Burnley.
