PSG’s Nordi Mukiele to miss Barcelona tie due to concussion

Nordi Mukiele (26) was withdrawn in the first half of Paris Saint-Germain’s 1-1 draw against Clermont Foot on Saturday with a head injury. The Frenchman departed reluctantly and had wanted to continue, however, he did ultimately cede his place. He will now also miss Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter against Barcelona, according to L’Équipe.

Following the injury, suffered during a clash with Clermont goalkeeper Massamba Ndiaye in the 13th minute, Mukiele underwent tests with a neurologist on Monday. In the wake of those tests and in line with the concussion protocol, PSG have taken the decision to rest the right-back against Barcelona. It is a blow for PSG, who will also be without the suspended Achraf Hakimi – Mukiele’s replacement on Saturday – for the first leg, which will take place at the Parc des Princes.

It is currently unclear who will deputise in the right-back position. Previously, 18-year-old midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery has played in the position and he may do so again against the Catalan club.
