PLAYER RATINGS: Marcel Sabitzer, Julian Brandt and Ian Maatsen impress

After a whirlwind evening at the Signal Iduna Park, Borussia Dortmund booked themselves into the Champions League semi-finals for the first time in a decade.

The German trailed 2-1 heading into the tie but quickly flipped the game on it’s head after first-half strikes from Julian Brandt and Ian Maatsen.

Following a triple substitution by Diego Simeone at the interval, Atletico hit back with Angel Correa and a Mats Hummels own-goal to shock the home crowd.

However, it didn’t take long for the hosts to strike back in quick succession with Niclas Fullkrug and Marcel Sabitzer to wrap up the historic victory.

Here, Mail Sport’s James Cohen provides player ratings for both sides.

Borussia Dortmund (4-2-3-1)

Gregor Kobel – 6

Was rarely tested in the first-half and unlucky to be beaten by a fluke own-goal. Little that he could do for the second.

Ian Maatsen – 8

An impressive display from the Chelsea loanee. He was lively in the first-half and produced a sensational strike to give them the lead in the tie. Faded after the break.

An assured performance from the German international. Was confident on the ball and made sure that Alvaro Morata had a frustrating evening at the Signal Iduna

Mats Hummels – 6.5

The veteran defender rarely put a foot wrong but when he did, it proved costly. He could only watch on as his attempt of a clearance bounced into his own net in the second-half.

Julian Ryerson – 6

A solid defensive display from the full-back, who offered Atletico little down the right-hand side.

Emre Can – 6

The former Liverpool was a composed figure in the middle of the park for Edin Terzic’s side and managed the game well after Dortmund took the lead.
